Shapes: Teaching About Squares

Teaching shapes is fundamental. If you are planning a unit on squares, here are a few activities that can help. There are so many fun things you can do with this shape.

Activities

*Start out by taping off a square on the floor of your room.
*Instead of "Circle Time" have "Square Time" for the next week.
*Use your square for jump in jump out exercises to music.
*Walk around the edge of the square and pretend to be a tightrope walker.
*Do a wiggle walk around the square.
*Have your children find squares around the room.
*Cut out and laminate brightly colored squares and place them around the room for a square treasure hunt.
*Give each child four straws, popsicle sticks, pieces of yarn--whatever you have and have them make a square with it. You can even do this with four crayons.
