Book Focus: Splat the Cat

Splat the Cat is a delightful picture book about a cat who is afraid to attend school. There are hilarious moments when his mother has to drag him out of the house to get to "Cat School". Of course ol' Splat soon finds school is fun and can't wait to go back. There are many things you can do with this book in the classroom.
This book can be used to address fears kids have of going to school whether it's preschool or upcoming kindergarten. You might want to have them draw a picture of themselves on their first day of kindergarten and talk about what scares them the most. Splat the Cat helps to show the kids--it will be ok (especially if you hide a mouse in your lunchbox)
